the okame lore.
FOR LUCK AND JOY
Known as the Goddess of Mirth, the Okame or Otafuku is a beloved figure in Japanese culture, embodying luck and positivity. The term "Otafuku" translates to "Much Good Fortune," while "Okame" translates to "Tortoise," a symbol of luck and longevity.
The most famous legend associated with this mask revolves around a dancer named Ame-no-Uzume. When the sun goddess Amaterasu became angry with her brother and retreated into a cave, plunging the world into chaos and darkness, the dancer Uzume initiated a humorous and captivating dance. This caused the eight million deities to burst into joyous laughter. Once again, the world was filled with light and celebration.
